Since the Philippines follows the US pattern, the four-year MD course is done after the BS (Bachelor of Science). Students have to study BS Biology for 18 months and then progress to first year. After four years of academic courses, they will have to do an internship in an affiliated hospital for one year. At the end of the course, they will be awarded the degree of "Doctor of Medicine (MD)", which is the equivalent of MBBS in India.
